About Fernhill Builders
A licensed builder for homes in fire country: repairs, rebuilds and the exterior upgrades that keep embers out.
Why we start with the exterior
Wind-driven embers can travel well ahead of a fire front and land in the places a house is weakest: a vent with a coarse screen, a gap at the eave, a single-pane window, dry material against a wall. We build so those places are closed or rated, then we do the rest of the work.
What a written scope from us looks like
Each item names the assembly and the reason for it. A vent line says what kind of vent and what it resists. A window line gives the glass type. A wall line lists the layers from framing to finish. You can compare it, question it and hold us to it.
Repair, rebuild or retrofit
A house with smoke and heat damage, a lot where the house is gone and a home that came through untouched each need different work. The standard for the outside of the house stays the same.
Where we work
Pasadena is home base. The list runs to 103 cities over Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, and each service is offered in every one of them.

Every image here is licensed stock. Each one illustrates a type of work, and none shows a Fernhill job.
Before you harden or rebuild
Yes. A standing house can be retrofitted one assembly at a time: vents, eaves, windows, siding and the ground right next to the walls. We start with the openings embers use most.
It is the part of the California Building Code that sets materials and construction methods for buildings in wildfire areas. It covers vents, roofs, exterior walls, eaves, decks and glazing.
Yes. We take a cleared lot through plans, permits and construction, and we build the new exterior to the wildfire code from the foundation up.
Send the form with the address and what you need. We walk the property and write a scope that lists each assembly, then price it from that scope.
Ask about your house
Send the address and what you need. We reply about a walk-through and a written scope.
