Fire Rebuild and Exterior Hardening in Calabasas
Calabasas homes rebuilt or hardened with ember-resistant vents, tempered glazing and noncombustible walls, run the same way across the Conejo Valley.
From Calabasas out to Hidden Hills, Woodland Hills, West Hills, Topanga, Canoga Park and Agoura Hills, a Fernhill project follows one sequence. We inspect the exterior, write a scope that names each assembly, file for the permit, and build in the order inspections call for. Sections of Calabasas fall within mapped fire hazard zones, and where an address does, its vents, glass and cladding may need to meet ember-resistance rules.
One sequence, start to finish
The exterior walk comes first, around the full house, with notes on every vent, window, door, eave and wall face. Those notes turn into a written scope where each line names the material and the standard it meets. The City of Calabasas reviews the permit drawings. Once they are approved, the work goes in from the structure outward: framing repairs, sheathing, the weather barrier, then flashing at each opening before glass and cladding. Each stage is left open for its inspection before the next layer covers it, so nothing hidden goes unchecked.
Walls and openings built to resist embers
Wood siding that has split or dried out is a weak skin in a fire area. We replace it with fiber cement boards or cement plaster, both noncombustible, laid over a fresh weather-resistive barrier. Windows go in with tempered outer panes in dual glazed units, set on sill pans with lapped flashing at the jambs and head. Gable and soffit vents are replaced with listed units whose mesh or baffles slow embers and flame. Gaps where the siding meets the roof, a deck or the foundation are closed, since a small opening is where sparks tend to find their way inside.
