Stucco Repair and Exterior Hardening in Cerritos
Cerritos stucco repair that finds the edge of the damage, renews the paper and lath behind it and matches the finish, with ember resistant vents fitted too.
Can the cracked stucco on my Cerritos house be patched, or does the whole wall need new plaster? A patch works when the paper and lath behind the damaged area are still sound and the crack has not let water reach the framing. If the sheathing is wet or the lath has rusted, the patch has to grow until it meets good material. We find that edge before giving a price.
Locating the edge of the damage
We tap the plaster around each crack and listen for a hollow sound, which means the coat has pulled away from the lath. A moisture meter on the inside face of the wall, or through a small probe hole outside, tells us whether the framing is wet. Stains under a window corner or along the base point to where water got in. When the damage is confined to one spot, we cut a clean square around it. Where it spreads, we may recommend a full recoat of that wall.
Rebuilding and matching
Inside the cut, new paper is lapped under the old so water still runs outward, and new lath is tied into the existing mesh. The scratch and brown coats are built up to the level of the surrounding wall, then a finish coat is troweled to match the texture. Color can be matched with an integral pigment or a coat of elastomeric paint over the whole wall face. While the wall is open, we can fit ember resistant vents. Stucco work that touches structure is permitted through the city building department.
