Fire Rebuild & Reconstruction in La Canada Flintridge
La Canada Flintridge fire rebuilds with runoff controlled on the open site and the finished grade shaped to drain away from new walls, by Fernhill Builders.
Ground stripped bare by a fire sheds rain fast, and on a La Canada Flintridge rebuild that runoff has to be steered before it reaches an open footing trench. Our first water work is temporary: straw wattles across the flow, gravel bags at the low edge, tarps over soil piles and a lined washout for concrete tools. If the lot slopes, the uphill side gets the most attention. The lasting drainage is built later, to the approved plans.
Protecting the open site
While footings are dug and poured, one storm can fill a trench with mud and soften the soil the concrete needs to bear on. Excavations are covered when rain is forecast, and standing water is pumped out before an inspector arrives. Ash and debris from burned ground beyond the lot line can wash in, so a wattle line or short silt fence at the property edge catches it. An erosion control plan may be part of the permit set, and we draw ours to match the measures used on site.
Shaping the finished grade
When the house is closed in, the ground around it gets its final form. Soil falls away from the foundation on every side, and if water would otherwise run toward the house, a shallow swale lined with stone turns it aside. Paved areas carry grated drains piped to an approved outlet. The gravel or concrete strip along the walls, kept free of plants and mulch for ember safety, is laid to drain outward. Irrigation in the beds beyond it is aimed away from the siding, so sprinkler water never soaks the base of a wall.
About our Fire Rebuild & Reconstruction serviceServices in La Canada Flintridge
Fire Rebuild & Reconstruction in La Canada Flintridge: common questions
An engineer's look at the framing and foundation guides our answer. Sound structure supports a repair that replaces what heat and water ruined and brings the exterior up to the ember rules. Widespread char or a cracked foundation points toward clearing and rebuilding. Site drainage belongs in either scope, since the ground around a burned house changes too.
We walk the lot as well as the rooms, because an estimate built around the house alone can skip erosion control, drainage repair and regrading. Our scope sits beside the adjuster's lines, and every gap is noted on a marked copy for your insurance adjuster.
A house rebuilt on one of the La Canada Flintridge parcels that the state hazard maps cover must meet Chapter 7A. Expect Class A roofing, ember and flame resistant vents, tempered glass in every window, noncombustible or ignition-resistant walls, protected eaves and qualifying decks. We confirm the map status for your address with the city before drawing.
