Fire Rebuild & Reconstruction in Valley Glen
Valley Glen fire repairs that open the soffits to check rafter tails and blocking for char, then rebuild the roof edge to keep embers out of the attic.
Boxed eaves can hide the worst damage on a Valley Glen house that kept its roof. Flames that climb a wall reach the soffit, and the rafter tails and blocking inside it can char while the painted board underneath only blisters. We take down a soffit panel beside every scorched wall. Charred tails mean a new roof edge: repaired rafter ends, new fascia and sheathing, and an eave rebuilt to keep embers out.
What the soffit hides
Inside a closed eave sit the rafter tails, the blocking between them, the top plate of the wall and the edge of the roof sheathing. Heat collects in that pocket, so wood there can char deeper than anything visible from the yard. We sound each tail with a pick, check from underneath that the sheathing nails still grip, and look for soot trails that show where hot gas moved into the attic. Any vent set into the soffit comes out as well, since a melted screen or a scorched frame shows how far the heat went. Each finding is photographed and marked on a roof plan.
Rebuilding the roof edge
Tails with shallow char are cleaned and sealed. Deeper damage gets a new tail sistered to the sound rafter, with the splice length set by the engineer, or a full new rafter where the burn runs past the wall line. Fascia, the lowest courses of sheathing and the roofing over them come off and go back new, with a metal drip edge. How the eave closes is your choice unless the parcel is mapped: the wall cladding can run up to solid blocking between the rafters, or meet a soffit of noncombustible board. LADBS permits the framing repair and inspects it before the soffit is closed.

Fire Rebuild & Reconstruction in Valley Glen: common questions
The roof edge gives an early clue. If char stops at the tails and the top of the wall, a repair rebuilds that band and the rooms beside it. If the engineer finds burned rafters and bearing walls through much of the house, a rebuild on the tested foundation is the plainer route. You get both scopes in writing, with the photos.
Yes. Damage inside closed soffits is easy to miss on a walk around, so a first estimate may price paint on the eave and nothing above it. We list each opened bay with its photo, the framing it needs and the roofing that must come off to reach it. Every place our count departs from the adjuster's is marked, and that copy goes to your insurance carrier.
Mapping settles it, and LADBS plan check verifies that mapping for the address. On a lot the state hazard maps include, the eave has to stop embers at the wall line through solid blocking or an enclosed soffit of rated material, and roof, vents, glazing and siding follow the same chapter. If the maps leave the parcel out, that eave detail is ours to offer as a priced line.
