Fire Rebuild & Reconstruction in Ventura
Ventura fire repairs that sort the surviving clay or concrete roof tile piece by piece, reuse what is sound and fasten it with metal suited to salt air.
Can we put the old tile back on? On a Ventura house whose roof saw heat, clay and concrete tile is judged piece by piece. Tiles near the fire may carry hairline cracks or spalled faces, while pieces on the far slopes can come through sound. We take them down by hand, sort them, and plan the new roof around how many pass, with new tile matched to the profile for the rest.
Sorting what survived
Each tile comes off by hand and is stacked by slope. A light tap tells a lot: a sound tile rings, a cracked one gives a dull note. We also look for flaking faces, crazed glaze on clay, and broken lugs or nail holes. Passing tiles go on the slopes seen from the street, where a color match counts, and new tile in the same profile fills the rest. The underlayment is always new, and battens or decking that took heat are replaced before any tile goes back.
Salt air, rating and permit
Clay and concrete tile count as Class A coverings under the residential code, so a salvaged roof keeps that rating once it is laid over a new underlayment. Where salt air reaches the lot, tile fasteners are stainless or copper, and flashing at valleys and walls is a metal that will not rust through. The City of Ventura permits the roof work and inspects the deck nailing before tile is loaded. Where CAL FIRE has placed a parcel inside a hazard severity zone, its attic vents and eaves answer to the wildfire chapter too.

Fire Rebuild & Reconstruction in Ventura: common questions
We test the framing, the roof structure and the foundation first. If damage stops within a few rooms and part of the roof, those areas are repaired and sound tile goes back up. If heat went through most of the structure, a new build is recommended. Our written report shows how we reached that view.
Yes. Tile is one place estimates differ, since one may price a full new roof while another assumes everything can be reused. We count sound and damaged tile by slope, attach photos, and set that count against the adjuster's roofing lines, with underlayment, battens and flashing, for you to forward.
The CAL FIRE hazard severity maps for the Ventura parcel are our first stop. When it is mapped, the wildfire chapter covers everything new on the outside, from roof and vents to glazing, siding and decks. When it is not, regular code applies, and you can pick any ember-resistant part and see its price.
