Windows & Doors for Encino Homes, Installed in the Right Order

Fernhill Builders orders tempered windows and doors for Encino homes before any opening is touched, then flashes and seals each one before the next.

On an Encino window job, the order of work matters as much as the product. Nothing gets removed until the replacement units are measured, ordered and on site, so no wall sits open overnight to dust, a dry wind or a stray ember. Then each opening is cleared, inspected for damage, flashed and closed before work stops for the day. Trim and paint come last, once every unit is sealed.

Ordering before anything is removed

Windows and exterior doors are built to the measured size, so the sequence starts with a careful survey of every opening and a written list of glass, frame and swing for each. Only when those units arrive do we take out the old ones. That way a bedroom never has plastic sheeting in place of a window while a factory catches up. Doors follow the same rule: the new slab or prehung unit is checked against the opening before the old one comes off its hinges.

Flashing, then glass, then finish

Once an opening is clear, the bottom gets a sill pan that slopes outward and turns up at the back and ends. The window goes in plumb and level on shims, and its fin is fastened through the flashing tape. Side strips lap over the sill pan and the head strip laps over the sides, so water running down the wall is always shed outward. Only after that does the stucco patch or exterior trim go back, and the interior casing comes last, after the inside sealant has had time to cure.
