Stucco and Noncombustible Siding in Bel Air
Wood siding and trim replaced with cement plaster or fiber cement over gypsum sheathing for Bel Air homes, with closed eaves and LADBS permits, by Fernhill.
On a Bel Air house clad in wood siding, shingles or wide wood fascia, our Stucco and Exterior service comes ahead of windows and vents. The wall is the largest surface an ember can land on, and it is also the frame every later upgrade sits in. Some Bel Air lots appear on fire hazard maps, which can bring ember resistance rules with them. A noncombustible skin answers both concerns.
Stripping the old cladding
With the wood off, the sheathing and studs can be judged in the open. Soft or stained sheathing is replaced, gypsum sheathing goes in where the chosen wall assembly calls for it, and weather resistive barrier is lapped shingle style so water always runs outward and down. The new face is either a 3 coat cement plaster system or fiber cement panels and lap boards, and neither will burn. Head flashing at each window and door, and step flashing where a roof meets the wall, go in before any finish covers them.
Fascia, trim and the eave
Wood fascia, barge boards and window casings burn as readily as the siding around them. We replace them with fiber cement or metal and close any open eave with a noncombustible soffit. Gable vents are swapped for listed ember resistant units in the same pass. LADBS issues the permit and sends the inspectors for a Bel Air job. The drawings name each cladding system and its listing, the lath is inspected before the scratch coat goes on, and paint waits until the plaster has cured.
