Claremont ADU Construction with a Clear Address
Claremont ADUs planned so visitors and firefighters find the door, with a lit address sign, a clear path and a hardened shell, from Fernhill Builders.
"Will the cottage get its own street number?" A Claremont owner may raise it while we walk the lot, and the answer shapes the plan. The city decides how a second dwelling is numbered, which may be a unit designation added to the main address. Either way, a firefighter or a delivery driver has to find the door at night, so we place the sign, the path and its lighting before the footprint is final.
A route anyone can follow
The walk from the sidewalk to the unit gets a firm, level surface wide enough to carry a stretcher, and any gate along it opens without a key from the street side. Low lights beside it switch on by photocell at dusk. At the street, the address sign carries reflective numbers on a contrasting plate, mounted on a metal post where headlights catch it. A second sign by the unit's door repeats the number. Where the fire department limits how far the door may sit from the street, or sets a minimum path width, those figures go on the site plan and the unit is placed to meet them.
The shell behind the sign
If the parcel sits outside every mapped fire hazard zone, the code asks for no wildfire assemblies, and each hardened part becomes a separate line you can accept or decline. We propose cement plaster on the walls, a Class A roof covering, attic and foundation vents with fine corrosion-resistant mesh, and dual-pane windows that include a tempered pane. A strip of gravel or pavers, with no mulch or bark, runs along the base of the walls. Soffits enclose the rafter tails so embers find no pocket under the roof edge. The sign post is metal for the same reason.
ADU Construction in Claremont: common questions
We look up the Claremont address on the state fire hazard maps before drawing anything. If the parcel is mapped, the wildfire chapter governs the roof covering, the wall finish, every vent and each window. If it is not, an ordinary exterior meets code, and the hardened parts we propose are listed so you can take or leave each one.
On a Claremont set, the site plan is where the path, the address sign and the route to the unit's door are drawn, and the electrical sheet places the path lights. The package covers the permit set when the cottage stays at one level and inside the size cap. A larger design gets its own written quote.
Often, if the lot holds both buildings and Claremont approves the order of work. Building together means the main house and the unit get their signs, path and lighting designed once, as a single address plan. We check the rebuild's permit route and the space between the two buildings before placing the unit.
