Plaster is the last real step and the first thing anybody sees, so a Burbank job spends its early days on everything beneath it: protecting the ground and openings, stripping what has failed, then paper, flashing and lath. Fernhill Builders lists those stages in the scope in the order they happen, so the quote reads like a schedule of layers.

Under the plaster

Protection comes first. Windows are masked, plants and soil are covered or cut back, and the line of the weep screed is found. Failed plaster is removed to sound edges or to the sheathing. Two layers of water-resistant paper go on lapped like roof shingles, lowest course first, and flashing at every opening ties into that paper. Metal lath is then nailed through to the studs on the fastener schedule the code lays out, with trim metal at corners and edges. The inspector sees all of it before any plaster is mixed.

Coats, curing and finish

Cement plaster goes on in three coats. The scratch coat is scored for grip. The brown coat follows once the scratch coat is rigid enough to carry it, and the wall is misted so the cement cures slowly. The finish coat waits until the brown coat has cured long enough to accept it. Color and texture are sampled on the wall first. Paint, if specified, waits for the plaster to cure too. The scope lists each coat, so the days between them are planned and none are skipped.
